Background

NMMUK Sunderland required reliable communication between main high-voltage (HV) panels and remote solar farm panels. Previous attempts by other providers had failed due to the challenges of the site's scale and the need for uninterrupted data flow. Traditional cabling solutions were impractical, requiring extensive trenching and disruption to existing infrastructure. Juggle Energy was brought in to solve this problem with a robust, wireless-first approach.​

Leveraging our advanced networking and Modbus expertise, we designed and deployed a cutting-edge solution .

Wireless Connectivity

Physical RS485 Air Gap

Using G100 over 4G, eliminating the need for kilometers of serial and Ethernet cabling

Deployed our IoT-enabled J-Box technology to provide secure, resilient connectivity between battery systems and the cloud platform, ensuring safe and continuous data transmission.

LoRa Mesh Failover

To ensure resilience, we integrated our proprietary LoRa mesh failover (J-Mesh), which maintains real-time data availability even during 4G dropouts. 

Utilised the J-Box Bridge to act as a secure intermediary. It collects data from Modbus devices - including meters, G100 protection relays, and inverters - and translates it for the BMS without ever allowing the two networks to "see" each other.

Conclusion

Juggle Energy successfully delivered communication infrastructure with our wireless-first, intelligent failover approach. Also provided a cost-effective alternative to traditional cabling, while maximising system availability.
