Background
In Q1 2025, a new local energy storage provider approached Juggle with a vision to deploy a strategic network of 1MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the UK. To maximize the efficiency of these assets, the client appointed a leading energy optimiser for active management. However, they required a robust technical partner to bridge the gap between their physical hardware, the optimiser’s trading signals and cyber security, to restrict access from third parties.
Solution
Following a rigorous due diligence process, Juggle was selected as the technical partner. We deployed our proprietary J-Box technology and Juggle Cloud platform to deliver a comprehensive control suite:
Secure Connectivity
Established a "zero trust" approach using the J-Box to gatekeep manufacturer access. This included a dedicated VPN tunnel, allowing the client to control exactly when external maintenance is permitted.
Operational Visibility
Developed high-fidelity visualisations on the Juggle Cloud, ranging from individual battery pack metrics to real-time mimic diagrams of critical switchgear.
Interoperability
Built a secure, resilient Web Socket interface to facilitate seamless communication between the BESS units and the third-party energy optimiser.
Conclusion
The project is now fully operational, with Battery Box Ltd’s assets being actively monitored, controlled, and traded via the Juggle Cloud. By providing a secure interface that balances manufacturer maintenance needs with high-level security and trading agility, Juggle has created a scalable foundation for the client. We are now positioned to support the rapid expansion of their BESS fleet over the next two years.
